Laura Mercier grew up in Provence, France. Her love of art led her to enroll in painting school in Paris, France where she was able to hone and develop her natural artistic skills. It was during her tenure at her art school that Laura Mercier decided that she needed to change in her life pursuits. She was interested in makeup application and to achieve this she enrolled in the Carita School, world renowned for…….During her time studying, the school asked her to represent them as a makeup artist and instructor. This eventually led her to work with the popular makeup artist Thibault Vabre.
After spending sometime honing her skills in France, Laura Mercier moved to New York City in 1985. It was here that she was asked to join the team responsible for the launch of American Elle. During this time she worked with a wide array of magazines as well as reputable cosmetic and clothing companies. It was during this period that the opportunity arose for Laura Mercier to expand. She worked with popular designer Elizabeth Arden, where she was responsible for designing the makeup looks for all her advertising campaigns. This lasted for four years where afterwards she did work for Chanel in France.
In 1996 Laura Mercier Cosmetics was created. It was established as Laura Mercier felt her products could benefit women of all ages and skin types. The colors she wanted to work with would provide her users a classic and always current palette as opposed to seasonal colors that other designers would use.
